Knock knock. Who's there? Zombie. Zombie wh...oh god!!

Soooo...once again I've revised some artwork, this time for a zombie crowd-shot. In my first attempt I originally had a long aerial shot to show the size of the zombie crowd, but you couldn't see the zombies very well and it just wasn't scary enough. I wanted Jack to be in big trouble. So I flipped the angle around to showcase the zombie horde. No problem, right?

Yep, until I sat down to actually draw the thing. Zombie hordes are so much friggin' work to make all the zombies look, um, alive and moving. Anyway, I'm happier with this new shot. Enjoy!

While I'm here, I'd like to get into that exciting development I mentioned in a previous post happening over at Image comics. It's called "Creators For Creators", and it's the coolest thing to happen to creator-owned comics in a decade!

It's a grant program aimed at original comic book creators. The details of the program can be found at

From the website:
"The goal of the Creators for Creators grant is to help pave the way for the next generation of comics creators by supporting their work financially and through mentorship, as well as providing opportunities for their creations to reach a wide audience. We plan to give $30,000 to a single cartoonist or writer/artist duo in order to support the creation of a new and original work of a length between sixty-four and one hundred pages over the course of a single year. The recipient will be selected by committee according to rigorous criteria.
In addition to the monetary support, the recipient of the grant will have access to mentorship from the experienced creators involved with Creators for Creators. Mentorship will cover almost every aspect of the comic-creating experience. The goal is to give the recipient a firm foundation in the creative, business, legal, and financial areas of the comics business."

This is very exciting. It's obviously a long shot (as every comic book writer/artist in the world will probably send in a submission) but I have to try! So I'm going to submit "Heroes of the Dead" and see what happens!

I'm just wrapping up the last panels of issue #1, which I'll submit as my sample of 'sequential art'. And I've written out a 2-page summary of my story arc, spanning 4 issues, called "Hearts of Darkness" (which I renamed from "Crossing Over".)

So in the next couple of weeks I'll be arranging my submission package and preparing to take the plunge into the grant contest. I'll be posting my progress as I go!

Fingers, toes, heart and crosses crossed! :)
